God commands us to love people the way He loves them. We are to love and accept people unconditionally. Jesus loves us just the way we are. One of the best ways to reach lost people is to show we love them and care about them. This earns us the right to be heard. We’re even to love our enemies and those who make fun of us for being a Christian. To express God’s love to others may mean you get hurt, rejected, misunderstood and taken advantage of. You decide in advance, you will love, no matter what response you encounter. To love people the way Jesus does is ‘radical loving’. You can’t show radical love without Jesus. Ask God to give you His heart of radical love for people. Trust Jesus to show His radical love to people through you.
1. How can you show someone you care about them? We are to be and
act like Jesus. We are to be servants. It’s not natural to
serve others, but as you step out and serve, you will learn to
serve others, bless them and be blessed.
Jesus said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to
serve. I am among you as one who serves.” (Matt.20:28, Luke
22:27)
Paul taught, “Serve one another in love.” (Gal. 5:13)
You serve other people when you… do the small, unimportant,
menial tasks nobody else wants to do, make a personal
sacrifice to help somebody else, ask things like, “how can I
help, what can I do?”, do something for someone who can’t repay
you, give up the front seat when cruising, offer to take a
lunch tray back, pick up someone’s books that dropped, get an
assignment for someone who’s sick, give your possessions away
like a CD, food, book etc, offer to help someone study, be
available to talk to a hurting friend.
2. Jesus teaches us how to love people His way in 1 Corinthians
13:4-7. This must become your way of showing Jesus’ love to
others.
“Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never
boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love
does not demand it’s own way. It’s not irritable or touchy.
It doesn’t hold grudges and will hardly even notice when
others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but
rejoices when truth wins out. If you love someone, you will
be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always
believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always
stand your ground in defending him.”
To love like Jesus loves means you… perform random acts of
kindness, care more about others than yourself, won’t try to
talk someone into doing something they don’t want to do,
respect others, don’t keep score of the sins, mistakes and
shortcomings of others, never talk bad about others and
always look for the good in people, look for the best in
people, pray for and bless for those who hurt you, defend
those who can’t defend themselves.
3. You love people like Jesus does by honoring others.
“Honor one another above yourselves. Consider others better
than yourself.” (Rom. 12;10, Phil. 2:3)
To honor someone means you… look after the interest of others
before your own interests, look to meet the needs of others
before you get your needs met, give someone else the best
seat in the house, let someone else go ahead of you in a
line, help someone else get the recognition and praise you
think you may deserve, compliment someone who does well, put
your life on hold for someone else, help someone else feel
special and important, be a friend to an outcast in your
school and those who have characteristics which seem
unlovable, speak positively about someone who’s being cut
down.
4. To radically love others like Jesus, you must determine you’re
going to be different than everyone else!
Jesus was radically different and people were attracted to Him.
Unbelievers must see something different about you. The
difference is because Christ lives in you and you’re allowing
Him to live His life through you.
