Conversation Starters For Sharing Your faith
The following conversation starters will help you determine if an unbeliever is open to hearing about the Gospel. It’s okay if you have a little fear. The more you share your faith, you will find out what works best for you. You’ll become more bold and confident. Trust God to use you. He’s always with you in the work of evangelism. Keep a pocket size Bible with you at all times and witnessing tracts. Underline or mark key scriptures pertaining to the Gospel. Believe God can, will and is using you! You can start by saying, “Can I ask you a question?”
1. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A CHANCE TO TELL YOU WHAT I BELIEVE ABOUT GOD. MAY I?
2. CAN I TELL YOU ABOUT MY CHURCH? DO YOU GO TO CHURCH? DO YOU LIKE CHURCH? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT CHURCH?
3. DO YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF SPIRITUAL BELIEFS? If they answer yes, ask them what they are. Then after you listen, tell them what you believe.
4. I’M CURIOUS, WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE ABOUT GOD? ABOUT JESUS CHRIST? Be prepared to explain God and Christ to them using scripture and personal experiences. Know God’s attributes. ‘Who Is This Jesus?’ by Michael Green, ‘More Than A Carpenter’ by Josh McDowell, ‘Coming Face To face With His Majesty’ by John MacArthur are excellent studies on the character of God.
5. DO YOU THINK THERE’S A HEAVEN AND HELL? ‘One Minute After You Die’ by Erwin W. Lutzer gives a great preview of our final destination after we die.
6. IF YOU DIE TODAY, WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU GO? WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE HAPPENS TO YOU?
7. IF YOU DIE TODAY, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT WHERE YOU’RE GOING?
8. IF THEY ANSWER ‘HEAVEN’ TO EITHER QUESTIONS 7 OR 8, ASK THEM WHY THEY BELIEVE THEY’RE GOING TO HEAVEN. Any answer they give other than a biblical answer will give you an excellent opportunity to share the Gospel.
9. WHEN SOMEONE ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS WITH THEIR ANSWERS AND YOU KNOW IT’S NOT BIBLICAL, EVANGELIST WILLIAM FAY SUGGESTS YOU ASK THIS QUESTION: “If what you believe isn’t true, wouldn’t you want to know?”
10. ASK PEOPLE ABOUT THEIR LIVES, THEIR FAMILIES, JOB, WITHOUT SOUNDING NOSY. If they respond communicating any problems or struggles they have, it’s an open door to tell them about the hope Christ offers or how Christ has helped you through some difficulty or struggle.
FOR BEGINNING CONVERSATIONS WITH PEOPLE IN CRISIS OR TRAUMA SITUATIONS:
11. MANY TIMES, OPPORTUNITES ARISE TO SHARE RIGHT AFTER YOU PRAY FOR SOMEONE’S NEED OR CRISIS SITUATION. TELL THEM: “God sees your situation. He cares about your life here. He also cares about your eternal life. He wants to make sure you’ll be with him forever in heaven after you die. Did you ever think about that? Do you have a relationship with God? Can I tell you about it?”
12. IN WHAT WAYS ARE YOUR SPIRITUAL BELIEFS HELPING YOU IN THE DIFFICULTIES YOU’RE ENCOUNTERING? HOW HAS THIS AFFECTED YOUR SPIRITUAL BELIEFS?
13. HAVE YOU FOUND YOURSELF QUESTIONING GOD? HAS YOUR VIEW OF GOD CHANGED? DO YOU EVER WONDER WHERE GOD IS IN ALL THIS?
